Sasha Savvy Loves to Code with Sasha Ariel Alston

Today on the show, we’re talking to Sasha Ariel Alston, the author of Sasha Savvy Loves to Code – a children’s book that inspires girls to pursue STEM activities in a fun way.

Sasha is from Washington, DC and  she is a college student majoring in Information Systems at Pace University in New York City. With nine successful internships in the tech and business industries, she is a sought-after speaker to encourage youth to explore educational and career opportunities in STEM. 

She has appeared on Good Morning America, been featured in Forbes, Huff Post, Role Model Magazine, & Black Enterprise. She has inspired girls to dream big in Disney, Google, Snapchat, and Yahoo initiatives. Sasha was also selected as a 2018 Futurist by The Root magazine, one of Her Campus 22 Under 22 Most Inspiring College Women and as a Pace University 30 under 30 Difference Maker.

So the book ‘Sasha Savvy Loves to Code’, is a children’s chapter book (ages 7-10). The main character, Sasha Tech Savvy, is a super smart 10-year old African-American girl, who lives in Washington, DC. Sasha must choose which class she will take for summer camp. Sasha gets frustrated when her code doesn’t work in class. Finally, with some help, she is able to debug her program. Sasha is so excited that she didn’t give up. The girls vow to help each other with coding so they can create a fun gaming app together and start their own business.
